Ron Demetro, Roma Artist

Hi, and Welcome to my new site. I am an American Roma artist (b.1956) and Washingtonian and have been painting since my Russian born grandfather taught me to paint from memory or what he would call "from the heart". He would set up still life's in yard or basement, and then tell me to look all I wanted but to turn away when I picked up my pencil or brush. He felt that painting should be place where we can escape into another world that our heart showed us.

Later, I mainly drew for several years and picked up painting later in life, studying among other places at the Washington Studio School, in their Georgetown years with a great faculty and exhibited there once at the Annex Gallery.

I continued there drawing and painting every Friday night and also ask permission from the Washington School of Ballet and the Washington Ballet to draw and sometimes paint the dancers which was very hard at first but later proved some very beautiful paintings and drawings.

Being and growing up an American Roma, our love of horses goes back many centuries. My great-grandfather was a horse trader and coppersmith who traveled through the US and Canada.

I am currently showing paintings by appointment only. Please email me if you are interested in any work at ;
